Yamata FY5318
is a specialized industrial lockstitch machine designed for the "middle-weight" to heavy-weight sewing category. Built on the proven Mitsubishi-style platform (comparable to the Juki DU-1181N), it features a powerful Top and Bottom Feed mechanism. This "Walking Foot" action ensures that multiple layers of difficult material—like slippery vinyl or dense canvas—stay perfectly aligned without shifting or bunching.
Equipped with a Large Horizontal-Axis Rotary Hook, this machine accommodates a double-capacity "M" size bobbin, allowing for longer runs with thick industrial threads. Paired with a modern Electronic Servo Motor, it provides the high torque needed for leatherwork while offering a silent working environment and precise speed control.
- Top and Bottom Feed (Walking Foot): The alternating presser foot and feed dog work in tandem to pull heavy materials through the machine evenly, preventing "ply-shift.
- Large "M" Style Bobbin: The horizontal-axis hook holds twice as much thread as a standard bobbin, essential when using thick bonded nylon threads.
- Safety Clutch Mechanism: Features a push-button re-engagement safety clutch that automatically disengages the hook drive if a thread jam occurs, protecting the internal timing.
- Extra-Long Stitch Capability: Capable of producing a bold 10mm (2.5 SPI) stitch, ideal for structural integrity and decorative top-stitching on bags and seats.
- Fully Automatic Lubrication: A built-in pressure oil pump ensures all high-speed components remain cooled and lubricated for 24/7 industrial use.
- Universal Part Compatibility: The FY5318 is designed for easy maintenance, with presser feet and needles interchangeable with many Juki, Brother, and Consew models.
- Adjustable Speed Servo Motor: The included 110V motor is 90% more energy-efficient than traditional clutch motors and allows for stitch-by-stitch precision.

JUKI DDL-8700 FAQs
What kind of needles do you use in the DDL-8700?
The needles with your JUKI are the Organ DBx1, available on our website. This machine uses size 16×257, size 8 through 20 or 16×97. The 8700 can also use standard needles, sizes 9 through 21, universal or fabric-specific needles such as knit.
Where does the machine oil go?
A pan directly underneath the machine supplies oil to the machine with a cotton wick. Lift the machine up and over to access the oil tank while on the table. You must keep the machine’s oil level consistently at the «high» mark, either by adding more oil or draining it and refilling it as needed. If the oil pump can’t get the oil into the machine, it can cause serious problems later.
What kind of oil does this machine require?
You need a specific type, like motor oil in your car, to keep this machine running. The DDL-8700 requires JUKI New Defrix Oil No.1, equivalent to ISO VG7.
What size table can I get with this machine?
Our table has legs and is 22"w x 47"l. It includes a knee and foot pedals and a left-hand drawer for accessories.
Does the DDL 8700 make buttonholes?
No. The 8700 only does straight stitching, with a horizontal bar on the right side for a reverse stitch.
THE ADVANTAGES OF A SERVO MOTOR
Because of the Servo motor speed control, most users find the machine more straightforward to use. Both beginning and seasoned sewers find this feature helpful when stitching projects that don't demand high-speed stitching.
They use up to 90% less power than clutch motors
They are 1/3 lighter than clutch motors
With a flick of the switch, you can reverse motor rotation
No parts to wear out or adjust
No matter how hard you press the foot pedal, the configured speed remains the same.
