Singer 14HD854 Heavy Duty Serger

is a high-speed overlocker designed to provide professional seam finishes on a wide range of fabrics, from delicate silks to heavy denim. Built with a Heavy Duty Metal Frame and a high-performance motor, this machine delivers 1,300 stitches per minute with incredible stability. Its standout feature is the 60% larger cutting knife, which slices through thick layers of fabric far more effectively than standard domestic sergers. Whether you're finishing raw edges, sewing stretchy knits, or creating decorative flatlock seams, this workhorse ensures a "store-bought" look every time.

The 14HD854 is the ideal choice for:

  • Garment Construction: Creating durable, stretchy seams in activewear, swimwear, and t-shirts.
  • Professional Finishing: Overlocking raw edges on the inside of garments to prevent fraying.
  • Heavyweight Projects: Trimming and seaming thick denim, corduroy, or light upholstery fabrics.
  • Decorative Edging: Creating elegant rolled hems on scarves, napkins, and bridal veils.
  • Crafting: Using the flatlock stitch for unique decorative textures on bags and pillow
  • 2-3-4 Thread Capability: Offers 6 different stitch types, including blind hems, rolled hems, flatlocking, and 4-thread overlocking for maximum seam strength.
  • 1,300 Stitches Per Minute: Professional-grade speed allows you to finish projects in a fraction of the time.
  • Superior Cutting System: Features an oversized cutting knife (60% larger than other Singer models) and a moveable upper knife that can be disengaged for specialty techniques.
  • Adjustable Differential Feed: Prevents fabric stretching or puckering. Control the ratio of the feed dogs to ensure smooth seams on jersey knits or to create beautiful ruffles on lightweight fabrics.
  • Color-Coded Threading: A simplified, lay-in threading system with easy-to-follow diagrams printed right on the machine takes the frustration out of setup.
  • Built-in Free Arm: Simply slide off the accessory compartment to sew cuffs, sleeves, and other tubular garment sections with ease.
  • Dual LED Lighting: Equipped with two high-output lights that provide twice the brightness of standard sergers, eliminating shadows in the cutting and needle area.
  • Extra-High Presser Foot Lifter: Offers the additional clearance needed when placing multiple layers of heavy fabric or thick fleece under the foot.

JUKI DDL-8700 FAQs

What kind of needles do you use in the DDL-8700?

The needles with your JUKI are the Organ DBx1, available on our website. This machine uses size 16×257, size 8 through 20 or 16×97. The 8700 can also use standard needles, sizes 9 through 21, universal or fabric-specific needles such as knit.

Where does the machine oil go?

A pan directly underneath the machine supplies oil to the machine with a cotton wick. Lift the machine up and over to access the oil tank while on the table. You must keep the machine’s oil level consistently at the «high» mark, either by adding more oil or draining it and refilling it as needed. If the oil pump can’t get the oil into the machine, it can cause serious problems later.

What kind of oil does this machine require?

You need a specific type, like motor oil in your car, to keep this machine running. The DDL-8700 requires JUKI New Defrix Oil No.1, equivalent to ISO VG7.

What size table can I get with this machine?

Our table has legs and is 22"w x 47"l. It includes a knee and foot pedals and a left-hand drawer for accessories.

Does the DDL 8700 make buttonholes?

No. The 8700 only does straight stitching, with a horizontal bar on the right side for a reverse stitch.
