Rex RX-518

is an industrial-grade, portable blindstitch machine designed for professional hemming on a compact scale. Perfect for tailor shops, dry cleaners, and home studios, this machine produces a completely invisible "blind" stitch that mimics hand-sewing at a fraction of the time. Whether you are shortening trouser legs, finishing dress hems, or tailoring coat sleeves, the RX-518 provides the durability of a full-size industrial unit with the convenience of a portable, 110V table-top design.

The RX-518 is the go-to solution for professional-quality hemming on:

  • Menswear: Slacks, trousers, and suit jacket cuffs.
  • Womenswear: Skirts, dresses, and blouses made of silk, cotton, or synthetics.
  • Outerwear: Hemming coat linings and heavy wool jackets.
  • Home Decor: Finishing the edges of lightweight curtains and drapes.
  • Invisible Stitch Technology: Uses a specialized curved needle to catch only a few threads of the face fabric, ensuring the seam is virtually invisible from the outside.
  • Skip-Stitch (1:1 and 2:1) Lever: Features a 2:1 skip-stitch function for lightweight or delicate fabrics, allowing for a more flexible, hand-tailored appearance.
  • Heavy-Duty Metal Build: Unlike domestic plastic units, the RX-518 is constructed with a rugged cast-iron frame for stability and long-term industrial use.
  • Adjustable Penetration Dial: A precision depth-control dial allows you to fine-tune how deep the needle penetrates, ensuring perfect results on everything from thin synthetics to thick wool.
  • Swing-Away Narrow Cylinder Arm: Specifically designed to accommodate tubular items like cuffs, sleeves, and narrow pant legs with ease.
  • High-Speed Motor: The powerful 110V built-in motor allows for efficient production, far exceeding the speed of manual hemming.
  • Knee-Lift Feed Control: Includes a knee lifter to lower the feed plate, keeping your hands free to guide the garment during insertion and removal.
  • Stitch Type: Single-Thread, Chainstitch (Blindstitch 103)
  • Max. Sewing Speed: 1,200 Stitches per Minute (SPM)
  • Skip Stitch Ratio: 1:1 and 2:1
  • Stitch Length: 3mm – 8mm
  • Needle System: LWx6T (#11 for light fabric; #14 for medium/heavy)
  • Presser Foot Lift: 12mm (Knee operated)
  • Motor Type: 110V, 90W Household/Portable Power
  • Cylinder Diameter: 55mm (Approx. 2.1 inches)

JUKI DDL-8700 FAQs

What kind of needles do you use in the DDL-8700?

The needles with your JUKI are the Organ DBx1, available on our website. This machine uses size 16×257, size 8 through 20 or 16×97. The 8700 can also use standard needles, sizes 9 through 21, universal or fabric-specific needles such as knit.

Where does the machine oil go?

A pan directly underneath the machine supplies oil to the machine with a cotton wick. Lift the machine up and over to access the oil tank while on the table. You must keep the machine’s oil level consistently at the «high» mark, either by adding more oil or draining it and refilling it as needed. If the oil pump can’t get the oil into the machine, it can cause serious problems later.

What kind of oil does this machine require?

You need a specific type, like motor oil in your car, to keep this machine running. The DDL-8700 requires JUKI New Defrix Oil No.1, equivalent to ISO VG7.

What size table can I get with this machine?

Our table has legs and is 22"w x 47"l. It includes a knee and foot pedals and a left-hand drawer for accessories.

Does the DDL 8700 make buttonholes?

No. The 8700 only does straight stitching, with a horizontal bar on the right side for a reverse stitch.
