Consew 387RB-2

is an elite industrial sewing machine designed for heavy-duty applications requiring two rows of perfectly parallel lockstitches. Its unique cylinder arm design is essential for sewing tubular or curved items that a flatbed machine cannot handle. Combining a triple-feed (compound feed) mechanism with a high-clearance alternating presser feet system, the 387RB-2 effortlessly climbs over thick seams and cross-seams without skipping or shifting, making it the premier choice for automotive interiors and high-end luggage.

Why Choose the Twin Needle 387RB-2?

While a single needle machine requires two passes to achieve a parallel look—doubling the margin for error—the 387RB-2 guarantees a perfectly uniform 1/4" gap every time. When combined with the walking foot and cylinder arm, it allows you to tackle the most complex upholstery curves with professional factory-grade results.

  • Twin Needle Capability: Produce two uniform rows of stitching simultaneously, perfect for decorative topstitching and reinforced seams.
  • Triple Feed (Compound Feed): Synchronized needle, feed dog, and walking foot movement ensures heavy layers of leather or canvas are fed evenly.
  • Cylinder Arm Design: The 2 9/16" (65mm) diameter arm allows for easy maneuverability of sleeves, bags, and tubular upholstery sections.
  • Large Vertical Axis Hooks: Equipped with two large capacity hooks to accommodate thick thread and reduce the frequency of bobbin changes.
  • Safety Clutch: Features an automatic safety clutch to prevent hook damage in the event of a thread jam or needle strike.
  • Silent Servo Motor: Includes a 110V electronic Servo Motor providing 90% energy savings and full speed control for intricate corner work.
  • Stitch Type: 301 Lockstitch (Double Needle)
  • Standard Needle Gauge: 1/4" (6.4mm) - Other sizes available upon request
  • Max Sewing Speed: 2,000 SPM
  • Max Stitch Length: 4.2 s.p.i. (6mm)
  • Cylinder Arm Diameter: 2 9/16" (65mm)
  • Cylinder Arm Length: 10 1/4" (258mm)
  • Presser Foot Lift: 1/2" (13mm)
  • Needle System: 135 x 17 (DPx17)
  • Hook Type: Large Vertical Axis Rotary Hooks
  • Work Space: 10" (254mm)

The 387RB-2 is specifically engineered for "big" projects that require decorative or structural parallel stitching:

  • Automotive Upholstery: Creating double-stitched seams on dashboards, seats, and interior panels.
  • Furniture Upholstery: Specialized for leather sofas, armrests, and cushions.
  • Luggage & Handbags: Ideal for attaching handles, gussets, and decorative trim on large travel bags.
  • Canvas Work: Awnings, tents, and marine covers where reinforced double seams are required.
  • Sports Gear: Heavy-duty pads, bags, and protective equipment.

JUKI DDL-8700 FAQs

What kind of needles do you use in the DDL-8700?

The needles with your JUKI are the Organ DBx1, available on our website. This machine uses size 16×257, size 8 through 20 or 16×97. The 8700 can also use standard needles, sizes 9 through 21, universal or fabric-specific needles such as knit.

Where does the machine oil go?

A pan directly underneath the machine supplies oil to the machine with a cotton wick. Lift the machine up and over to access the oil tank while on the table. You must keep the machine’s oil level consistently at the «high» mark, either by adding more oil or draining it and refilling it as needed. If the oil pump can’t get the oil into the machine, it can cause serious problems later.

What kind of oil does this machine require?

You need a specific type, like motor oil in your car, to keep this machine running. The DDL-8700 requires JUKI New Defrix Oil No.1, equivalent to ISO VG7.

What size table can I get with this machine?

Our table has legs and is 22"w x 47"l. It includes a knee and foot pedals and a left-hand drawer for accessories.

Does the DDL 8700 make buttonholes?

No. The 8700 only does straight stitching, with a horizontal bar on the right side for a reverse stitch.

THE ADVANTAGES OF A SERVO MOTOR

THE ADVANTAGES OF A SERVO MOTOR

Because of the Servo motor speed control, most users find the machine more straightforward to use. Both beginning and seasoned sewers find this feature helpful when stitching projects that don't demand high-speed stitching.
