Consew 29B

is the industry-standard "Patcher" machine, designed specifically for the unique challenges of shoe repair and leather mending. Its defining characteristic is the 360-degree universal revolving presser foot, which allows you to stitch in any direction—sideways, backward, or circular—without moving the workpiece. This hand-driven model provides unmatched tactile feedback, making it the perfect tool for repairing delicate leathers, elastic gussets, and zippers in tight, tubular spaces like boot toes and handbag interiors.

Manual vs. Motorized (The 29B Advantage)

While motorized patchers (like the 29BL) are great for speed, the 29B Manual is preferred by many professional cobblers for repair work. It allows you to feel the resistance of the material and ensures you never over-stitch a delicate area. Its simple, robust mechanical design means it requires minimal maintenance and can be used in shops without specialized electrical setups.

The 29B is a specialized tool for repairs that a standard walking foot cannot touch:

  • Cobbling: Patching shoe uppers, replacing elastics, and mending boot linings.
  • Leather Craft: Repairing zippers on leather jackets, patching elbows, and fixing gloves.
  • Accessories: Working on the internal seams of purses, briefcases, and luggage.
  • Orthotics: Stitching braces and custom orthopedic footwear adjustments.
  • Equestrian: Mending narrow straps and specialized horse tack.
  • 360° Universal Feed: Directional wing nut allows you to change the stitching path instantly, navigating tight corners and internal repairs with ease.
  • Ultra-Slim Cylinder Arm: Specifically tapered to fit deep into the narrowest openings, such as the toes of boots and sleeves of leather garments.
  • Hand-Driven Precision: Features a side-mounted handwheel for total manual control, allowing for "stitch-by-stitch" precision on expensive materials.
  • Large Work Capacity: Available in the standard 12-inch arm or the extended 18-inch (29B-18) arm for deep-reach projects like tall riding boots.
  • Variable Speed & Force: While hand-driven, the heavy-duty balance wheel provides the momentum needed to pierce through multiple layers of leather.
  • Small Bobbin System: Uses a specialized small cylinder bobbin designed to fit within the narrowest arm tip in the industry.
  • Stitch Type: 301 Lockstitch
  • Max Sewing Speed: 500 SPM (Manual/Hand-driven)
  • Max Stitch Length: 5 s.p.i. (5mm)
  • Cylinder Arm Lengths: 12-1/4" (311mm) or 18" (457mm)
  • Cylinder Arm Diameter: 1-1/8" (28.5mm) at the tip
  • Presser Foot Lift: 1/4" (7mm)
  • Needle System: 29 x 3 (DI x 3)
  • Bobbin Type: Small Cylinder Bobbin (Part #8222)
  • Feed Type: 360° Universal Top Feed

JUKI DDL-8700 FAQs

What kind of needles do you use in the DDL-8700?

The needles with your JUKI are the Organ DBx1, available on our website. This machine uses size 16×257, size 8 through 20 or 16×97. The 8700 can also use standard needles, sizes 9 through 21, universal or fabric-specific needles such as knit.

Where does the machine oil go?

A pan directly underneath the machine supplies oil to the machine with a cotton wick. Lift the machine up and over to access the oil tank while on the table. You must keep the machine’s oil level consistently at the «high» mark, either by adding more oil or draining it and refilling it as needed. If the oil pump can’t get the oil into the machine, it can cause serious problems later.

What kind of oil does this machine require?

You need a specific type, like motor oil in your car, to keep this machine running. The DDL-8700 requires JUKI New Defrix Oil No.1, equivalent to ISO VG7.

What size table can I get with this machine?

Our table has legs and is 22"w x 47"l. It includes a knee and foot pedals and a left-hand drawer for accessories.

Does the DDL 8700 make buttonholes?

No. The 8700 only does straight stitching, with a horizontal bar on the right side for a reverse stitch.
